Hi!
Last Sunday over on Substack, I posted “The Most Influential People In Ancient History” (pt. 2), about Homer and Sappho. I mentioned that there’s been different theories about Sappho’s role (whether she ran some sort of “school” for young ladies or taught them or what) and those ideas, some of which started back in the Victorian Era, haven’t been widely accepted for a long time now but still show up in some sources.
But it does seem reasonable the she did have some sort of group of women she regularly met with and perhaps instructed or coached in music and poetry, even it wasn’t formal, and it would’ve been dedicated to Aphrodite, since Sappho herself was closely associated with the Goddess.
So (I think) it makes sense there were a group I’m calling “Sappho’s Girls” and (of course) I had create a video of them! π
Here it is! I hope you enjoy this take on Sappho’s Girls! π
As always, thank you so super-much for your more-than-awesome support! πππ
