Dawn and Dusk 🔒🔥

Growing up, I loved Neo-Classical painting. William-Adolphe Bouguereau is one of my favorites. I loved his style and some of his paintings I find frankly erotic (like Nymphaeum, 1878), which is unusual for his time.

This image was inspired by his paintings of L’Aurore (Dawn) (1881) and Le Crépuscule (Dusk) (1882). In Greek myth, Night (Nyx) and Day (Hemera) are sisters who are never allowed in their house at the same time; one must leave as the other returns and they never touch.

But Eos (Dawn) greets them at dawn and sunset and, brushing fingertips, for that instant, they all connect through her. It makes my heart ache to think how the three of them must savor those brief moments, for even Gods must crave the touch of those they love, however brief.

So I wanted to do an image where they finally get to embrace. This is the result.
